AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
944 AM EST Sun Feb 27 2022

.SYNOPSIS…
High pressure extending over the region today will get pushed
south as a weak, dry cold front moves across the area tonight.
Temperatures will be near normal to start the week, but the
return of southerly flow will bring warmer readings into
midweek.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/…
High pressure will continue to move south away from our region
while a cold front approaches from the north. A dry atmosphere
is in place which will result in clear skies. The pressure
gradient will tighten some by this afternoon, and with diurnal
mixing, it will become locally gusty (across our northern zones)
to 25 mph from the west. Temperatures will be at or slightly
above normal. Highs will range from the upper 30s north to the
upper 40s south.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/…
Weak cold front will push south across the area tonight. This
will come through dry. Weak high pressure will build in behind
it for Monday. Cannot completely rule out some post frontal
stratus. And there will be a few mid clouds passing across the
area. Any cooling will be limited to northern counties. For the
most part, temperatures will be within a few degrees of
persistence.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/…
Period begins with an H5 trough sitting across the northeastern
CONUS, providing northwesterly flow aloft across the Ohio
Valley. No major changes expected in this flow pattern through
Thursday, other than several waves of energy traversing the
Great Lakes region. The bulk of the pcpn will remain north of
our CWA through the work week, but there could be some light
pcpn that works into our northern counties Wednesday night into
Thursday depending on how the pattern evolves. For now, have
continued to keep the forecast dry until the signal changes
amongst majority of models/ensemble members.

Temperatures on Tuesday will begin to climb back above
climatological normals – as much as 10 degrees for some
locations. A subtle increase on temperatures will occur on
Wednesday, which could allow for locations near/south of the OH
River to breach 60 degrees.

As we head into Friday, the upper level flow pattern will
finally begin to change as a H5 ridge propagates across the
Midwest region. This will begin to promote WAA, ushering in a
more tropical-like air mass as we progress into the weekend.
From this, higher probabilities for rain will move into our fa,
leading to increased (and already some likely) PoPs in our CWA
for Saturday into Saturday night. While not in the grids yet, it
would not be out of the question for some of our far southern
counties to observe daytime highs of 70+ next Saturday.

&&

.AVIATION /15Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/…
Visibility restrictions around Cincinnati will dissipate early.
Skies will be clear through the day with some cirrus working in
tonight. West winds will increase to 10 to 15 kt during the day.
These winds will decrease and veer tonight as a weak front drops
into the area. Late in the period, there is some potential for
visibility restrictions again around Cincinnati. And cannot
completely rule out some stratus around Columbus.

OUTLOOK…No significant weather is expected.
