(Issued 245 AM CDT Wed Jul 20 2022)

Today through Thursday:

A strong, compact closed low is rotating across the Arrowhead of
Minnesota this morning. An associated cold front will sweep
across the area around or a little after sunrise, with gusty west
winds expected for much of the day. Despite the strength of the
closed low, weak low level convergence and a lot of dry air are
limiting precipitation chances considerably. Couldn`t totally rule
out a stray shower this morning with the front, but it is
unlikely. A few showers may also form this afternoon within the
deep cyclonic flow aloft, but again, chances are low. If something
does develop, it will likely be confined to locations north of

Temperatures today will be a touch cooler behind the front, with
highs generally in the low to mid 80s. A scattered cloud deck is
likely by afternoon, especially across central Wisconsin.

The stronger gusts should diminish with sunset this evening, but
winds will remain breezy into Thursday. A weak trough is expected
to pass through the region on Thursday, which could spark a few
afternoon showers or thunderstorms, though the quality of the mid
level airmass remains poor. Temperatures on Thursday will be
warmer, with upper 80s expected.

(Issued 245 AM CDT Wed Jul 20 2022)

Thursday night through Tuesday:

A potentially active, quasi-zonal pattern sets up for Friday into
the weekend, favoring several chances for rain.

Initial chances arrive late Friday, as strong warm advection
develops over the region. This will set the stage for a hot and
humid Saturday, with highs near 90 and dewpoints in the low 70s.

Guidance is then in fair agreement in bringing a cold front south
into the region Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, with
widespread thunderstorms developing along the boundary as it
pushes into the area. Given the hot and humid airmass and moderate
deep layer shear in place, we will need to watch out for a severe
threat, mostly with wind. Heavy rain will also be a concern, with
storm motion largely parallel to the southward advancing boundary,
suggesting a good chance for training thunderstorms.

Things become a bit more murky from Sunday onward, as much will
depend on where the aforementioned cold front ends up (which will
be dependent on how convection evolves Saturday night). With
multiple shortwaves traversing the Northern Tier, daily rounds of
showers and thunderstorms are likely across the baroclinic zone,
wherever that ends up setting up. That could be across the area,
south of us, or even potentially north (though less likely).

Somewhat cooler temperatures aloft and increased cloud cover and
rain chances will result in temperatures being a little closer to
seasonal average, with highs next week currently favored to be in
the upper 70s to low to mid 80s.

(Issued 245 AM CDT Wed Jul 20 2022)

VFR is expected over the next 24 hours, with wind being the main
concern. Gusty south to southwest winds early this morning will
briefly wane, before picking up again from the west to northwest
behind a passing cold front. A scattered VFR deck is expected by
this afternoon, with an outside chance for a few showers across
central Wisconsin. Winds will remain breezy into the evening, but
the stronger gusts should start to diminish with sunset.

(Issued 245 AM CDT Wed Jul 20 2022)

Low pressure over Lake Superior will continue east today. An
associated cold front will move across the lake early this morning
with winds turning west to northwesterly behind it. Gusty west
winds will continue through the day today, and a Small Craft
Advisory is in effect for the nearshore waters through this

Weak high pressure then looks to work its way in across
the region, staying south of the lake Thursday through Friday.
This will bring a return of southwesterly winds across Lake
Michigan before another cold front is expected to push across the
lake over the weekend.
