Area Forecast Discussion…UPDATED
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
555 AM CST Sun Feb 27 2022

.UPDATE…
See below for the 27/12z Aviation Discussion.

Rain has quickly diminished across the area over the last couple
of hours. This trend will likely continue while the precip also
moves out of the forecast area later this morning. The forecast
was updated to trim and lower PoPs through the mid morning hours.

.AVIATION…
For the 27/12z TAFs, a band of light rain and drizzle continues to
move southeast through Northeast and North Central Louisiana, but
latest radar loops indicate this precipitation is rapidly
diminishing. The rain has already moved through all of the TAF
sites and no additional precip is expected. IFR/LIFR flight
conditions are also affecting most terminals along and south of
Interstate 30, but conditions are expected to gradually improve.
Skies are already clearing across SE OK and portions of SW AR and
NE TX. VFR conditions should return to most TAF sites by early to
mid afternoon, but lower ceilings may persist at KMLU until
28/00z.

.PREV DISCUSSION… /issued 332 AM CST Sun Feb 27 2022/

SHORT TERM…/Today through Monday/

A roughly west-east oriented upper trough axis is currently
located in Kansas and Missouri and will gradually move southeast
through the region today and into Monday. The trough will finally
move south of the forecast area Monday morning. A band of light to
moderate rain generated by isentropic ascent will continue to move
eastward this morning, generally affecting areas southeast of a
line from Toledo Bend to Farmerville. Mid-level dry air moving
into the region is very evident on the latest water vapor
satellite loops, and this dry air is helping to erode the back
edge of the rain. The rain should completely exit the forecast
area by mid to late this morning. No additional rain chances are
anticipated through the short-term period.

Northerly surface winds will continue to provide some cold air
advection into the area, but skies are expected to gradually clear
from northwest to southeast during the day. With the ending of the
rain and the return of some sunshine, daytime high temperatures
should climb into the 50s. Winds will be light tonight as the
center of a surface ridge builds into North Texas. This will allow
temperatures to radiate down nicely, and the entire forecast area
should fall below freezing. However, a warming trend will begin in
earnest Monday under abundant sunshine.

CN

LONG TERM…/Monday Night through Saturday Night/

Surface high pressure will continue to dominate our weather as we
move into the long-term period, resulting in dry conditions across
the region. Cool conditions can be expected Monday night into
Tuesday morning, with lows in the 30s areawide. Could see some mid
to high clouds stream over the region during this time as a short-
wave trough moves over the region, but that will be the gist of
things. Expect warmer temperatures across the region on Tuesday
afternoon, with highs in the upper 60s. The center of the sfc high
will start to slide east of the region on Wednesday, but dry
conditions will remain through the end of the work week. However,
southerly flow will return and the warming trend will continue, with
overnight lows eventually climbing into the 40s along with daytime
highs in the mid to to upper 70s by the end of the work week.

The flow aloft will once again become southwesterly by Friday
morning as a longwave trough digs out of the Pacific Northwest into
the Great Basin Region. Southerly flow will be on the increase,
along with cloud cover across the region. With a broad warm air
advection regime across the area, along with weak disturbances
moving along the flow aloft, rain chances will return across the
region by early Saturday morning and continue through the remainder
of the day. /20/
