659 AM CST Sun Feb 27 2022
MVFR/IFR conditions early this morning will transition to VFR from
NW to SE during the afternoon. VFR conditions will then prevail
through the remainder of the TAF period. Weak to moderate north
wind today, becoming light/variable tonight.
.PREV DISCUSSION… /Issued 425 AM CST Sun Feb 27 2022/
SHORT TERM (Today through Monday)…
An upper level disturbance is expected to move across the
Southern Plains/TX during the period. A transition from isentropic
ascent/patchy light rain/drizzle Coastal this morning to
isentropic descent/drying this afternoon is expected. Concur with
the NBM that cloud cover will dissipate from NW to SE across the
CWA this afternoon, resulting in a corresponding gradient in
maximum temperature. Significant subsidence is expected to
commence tonight behind the foregoing upper disturbance. Very dry
conditions are expected tonight/Monday. The combination of dry
atmospheric conditions/limited cloud cover, and light wind owing
to the position of the surface ridge axis, will contribute to
strong radiational cooling. Based on the NBM and HREF
probabilistic output, freezing temperatures (for at least 2
hours) are expected, at least over much of the northern sections
of the CWA. Issued a Freeze Warning for 08-14z Monday over
portions of the northern Brush Country/ Victoria Crossroads. Dry
and warmer Monday.
LONG TERM (Monday Night through Saturday)…
No major changes in the extended as mid-level ridging dominates
South Texas weather. Dry and warm conditions will continue through
much of the week, with highs in the 70s Tuesday/Wednesday, reaching
into the mid-upper 80s across the the Brush Country Friday through
An overall easterly flow is expected through the week, gradually
becoming more southeast Thursday/Friday. Moisture will increase as a
result from PWATs less than 0.5 inch early in the week to 1.0-1.4
inches Thursday onward. With time, models have leaned drier, now
decreasing rain chances for Friday, but maintaining at least slight
rain chances for Saturday as a weak coastal trough lifts north.
However, would not discount patchy drizzle on Friday. No significant
rainfall is expected at this time.
With the increase in surface moisture, marine fog may become a
concern late in the week as water temperatures remain rather cool in
the upper 40s to mid 50s.
Will retain the current SCA, in effect until 18z over the
nearshore waters, and until 00z Monday for the offshore waters.
There is no clear and convincing evidence to suggest that the SCA
should be adjusted. Isentropic lift this morning will contribute
to patchy light rain. Drier tonight and Monday.
Northeast to east winds will continue through Wednesday. Winds will
become more east to southeast Thursday and strengthen to moderate
levels Thursday night through the weekend. Rain chances return next
